Recently, someone in my community passed away from suicide. As soon as the rest of the community heard the news, my Instagram stories became flooded with encouraging messages. This made me think of a couple of things.
You never know what someone is really feeling or what problems they have. “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle you know nothing about.”
Social media is often used as a place where people go to talk about themselves, what they’ve done, and what they have. I’ve experienced FOMO countless times as I see my friends with the things I’ve wanted for so long. I’ve also posted these kinds of pictures and posts myself. There’s nothing wrong with using social media to share exciting moments in your life. But, what if every time we post a picture of ourselves on vacation or buying a new car, we also post a quote or a Bible verse to encourage whoever reads it? What if we don’t wait to remind other people that they’re loved until after there’s a tragedy? What if instead of only using social media to show others when we’re living our best lives, we also use it to remind others that they can live their best lives?
Remember: “Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.”
Stay amazing.
With love,
Latoinette
